I was working 8 hours on Friday 26th January so my alarm was set for 7am. It didn’t get light until 8am and it was quite chilly once out of bed.
Captain Caveman had gone to Tu Lan as he wasn’t at his next Son Doong briefing until Monday evening and he was looking forward to more caves. I had tea, a buttered crumpet and some dried figs for my breakfast. I cracked on with a morning’s work, knowing that I was taking 2 hours out of my working day.
As arranged, I met Jamie at Ela’s Kitchen for lunch, Ann arrived shortly after followed by the Aussies. I ordered beans on toast with bacon and mushrooms for my lunch, Jamie ordered a toastie, Ann and Greg went for the cheeseburger and Amanda chose a wrap. I also had 2 cups of tea with my lunch which I really enjoyed and I ate the whole plateful. It cost me 345 lira (£8.94) which I thought was reasonable for the size of the portion.
I went back to work until 6.30pm, for dinner I sprinkled some mozzarella cheese on the chicken dish from yesterday and had that, with a bit of Dairy Mill chocolate for afters. As I got in bed, I worked out I probably only had about 6 weeks left until I planned to be back in Vietnam.

I had a late breakfast of beans on toast on Saturday 27th January then I had a bit of a mission on. We needed to get a price for repairs to our wooden balcony fences and I’d asked Mehmet to take a look. We’d arranged 12 noon but instead of him coming to the apartment (where the job is to be done), he asked me to meet him at Lukka bar. I got there bang on 12 but he wasn’t there so I had a wander round the Maizie Moo shop next door. After a few minutes I messaged him and he said to get a drink (on him) but he was coming. I just ordered a Turkish tea and then was joined by Jan, a Bridge Club friend of Captain Caveman’s. We had a good chat as Mehmet was late, then the three of us chatted for at least half an hour. Once at the apartment, Mehmet had a measure up on each of the balconies then said he would come back with a price in 2 days.
Lunch was yet more of the chicken pasta dish and then I had a walk to the market, hoping they still had stuff left, as it was later than I’d hoped for.
Unfortunately I didn’t get much; just some apples and some tangerines for a total of 35 lira (91p).
For dinner I made a chicken stir-fry with a touch of black bean sauce, steamed rice with the omelette in to make it seem like a Chinese Fakeaway which was only 2 syns. I added cashew nuts using my Healthy B and it tasted so delicious. I only use a very small amount of black bean sauce and add boiling water to simmer the ingredients in. When I was watching TV and thinking I needed a snack, I had an apple and some cheese. It was a Saturday and I’d only had 6 syns, which used to be unheard of!!!
