It was Clare’s last day in Sheffield on Sunday 23rd August and I was sad that the weekend was coming to an end. My body was craving a rest after drinking too much, eating far too much and walking the 5 Weirs Walk when I’m unfit. Incidentally, when I checked the length of the walk it wasn’t more than 8km (5 miles) and I’d thought it was further.
We had bought all the items to make a breakfast at home but got up a bit late and decided not to bother. Instead we treated ourselves to one last meal out before Clare had to get her train back to Southampton. We had a really good Sunday dinner at Kelham Wine Bar and Kitchen, our closest bar. Captain Caveman and I chose the pork, Clare ordered the beef. All came with all the trimmings and loads of gravy on the side. Clare and I chose to drink a mimosa while Captain Caveman had a beer and we had one final cheers to round off an excellent weekend. It had made me realise how much I miss friends in the UK and was so grateful that Clare could come to visit us. For the dinner and a drink we paid just under £25 each and we all really enjoyed it.
As the tram had the replacement bus arrangement on, we advised Clare not to bother with public transport in case she missed the train. I had tears in my eyes as we waved bye to her in the taxi while stood on Ball Street bridge – I blamed the menopause for being over emotional.
Back home, all good intentions of doing work, laundry, blogging and even meeting Louisa (as she was also in the area with family) went out of the window. I went back to bed for a rest while Captain Caveman fell asleep on the beanbag in the living room.
It was almost 8pm when Captain Caveman and I ate halloumi pesto pasta for dinner and I remembered to take my Lactase pills at the right time and in the right way. They were actually working and my stomach was back to normal!
